Nitmiluk Gorge
Experience the gorge on a sunset cruise or hire a canoe and paddle through the crystal-clear waters of the gorge. There are several swimming spots along the river, including the popular Butterfly Gorge, where you can cool off in the refreshing waters surrounded by towering cliffs and lush vegetation.
After a day of exploring, relax and unwind at the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre, where you can learn more about the history and culture of the park through interactive displays and exhibits. The centre also offers a range of amenities, including a cafe, gift shop, and information desk where you can get advice on the best activities and attractions in the area. Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or cultural immersion, Nitmiluk National Park offers a range of experiences that will leave you with lasting memories of this stunning natural wonder.
For those seeking a more challenging adventure, the Jatbula Trail is a 62km trek that takes hikers through the heart of the park, following the path of the Jawoyn people. The trail leads from Nitmiluk Gorge to Leliyn (Edith Falls) and offers a unique opportunity to experience the diverse landscapes and cultural sites of the region.
The Jawoyn people believe the gorge was created by the Rainbow Serpent during the Dreamtime. It is a sacred place for them, with a deep spiritual connection. Visitors are urged to respect its cultural significance and can learn about it through guided tours with local Jawoyn guides. Engaging with the traditional owners can help visitors appreciate the cultural richness of the gorge and the importance of preserving Indigenous culture.
Experience a Rock art breakfast cruise with Nitmiluk Tours.
