Litchfield National Park

Historic ruins such as Bamboo Creek Tin Mine and Blyth Homestead, weathered sandstone structures, lush tropical rainforests, magnetic termite mounds, savannah vegetation and magnificent waterfalls are a short drive from Darwin. Find a private spot to swim at various waterfalls of Buley Rockhole, take the adventurous walk to Tabletop Range Escarpment or Florence Falls where the double waterfall cascades into a tranquil plunge and be astounded at the panoramic lookout.

Nestled in a valley of paperbarks, the uncrowded plunge pool at Tjaynera Falls/Sandy Creek is found along a relaxing 1.7km trail. The most popular and easily accessible attraction, Wangi Falls flows into a large plunge pool and a walking trail takes you through monsoonal rainforest to the top of the falls. The towering Tolmer Falls cascades over two high escarpments into a distant, deep plunge pool. There is no public access to the bottom of the falls as it is home to colonies of rare Ghost and Orange Horseshoe bats.

Overlooking the tranquil waters of Lake Bennett, surrounded by tropical Australian bushland and home to hundreds of birds and wildlife, Lake Bennett Resort is the perfect place to base yourself to explore the wonders of the Top End, offering a wonderful array of accommodation, great dining, a nine hole golf course, safe swimming, fishing and canoeing. You can unwind by the pool, enjoy a drink and snack from the bar and soak up the Territory atmosphere.

Magnetic Termite Mounds standing up to two metres high, reach for the sky. Constructed in a north-south orientation they act as a built-in temperature control mechanism, allowing only the least possible surface area to be exposed to the heat of the sun.

Situated close to Wangi Falls the Litchfield Tourism Precinct offers travellers a base to enter this unique National Park. A range of camping and accommodation choices are available, along with a range of delicious dining options. With all major attractions close by, you can spend less time travelling and more time relaxing or exploring all that Litchfield National Park has to offer. The Tabletop Track Walk links all the major attractions across the table top with the full loop taking up to three days to complete. You can arrange to have your vehicle left within the Litchfield Tourism Precinct while you enjoy your walking adventure.

Litchfield National Park access is less than two hours drive from Darwin on a sealed road through Batchelor, and is suitable for all vehicles, all year. In the wet season and on rare occasions flash flooding across the road may delay access for a short period of time. The alternate access from Cox Peninsular Road and Berry Springs joins the northern end of Litchfield Park Road, the 43 kilometre gravel road is impassable for extended periods during the wet season but can provide an alternative route in the dry season.
